Flying Innsbruck vol.2

Posted by: Ondrej aka Andrew » 10/05/2011 » Category: Paragliding

Innsbruck's winter and spring was a pilot's dream, with many flyable days. The weather was very favorable for our sport with minimum precipitation, low winds and a hefty portion of sunny days. Thanks to this I managed to clock around 150 flying hours in the air. Read more...

Flying Innsbruck vol.1

Innsbruck, the capital city of Tyrol, is located in western Austria. Situated in the heart of the Alps with mountain ranges all around, it has been connected with the paragliding sport since its beginnings. It was a thrilling moment for me to be able to move to this city and live my everyday life here. Read more...

Hike & Fly

Posted by: Ondrej aka Andrew » 18/09/2010 » Category: Paragliding

In the past decade or two paragliding changed and became more comfortable, especially in the European Alps. Pilots no longer hike in order to get up to be able to fly. They use cable cars or other means of transport to reach the top and after a short hike they are standing on the starting zone. On the other hand, is there a better feeling than conquering a mountain on your own by foot? Read more...

Paragliding around Liberec

Posted by: Ondrej aka Andrew » 12/07/2010 » Category: Paragliding

The northern part of the Czech Republic provides space for a lot of outdoor activities like biking, hiking or skiing and snowboarding in the winter. The local hills around the Liberec region are also used for paragliding, hang-gliding and other sports. The paragliding terrain called Rašovka is located on the southern side of the mountain range that peaks above the city Liberec. It is easily accessible from the highway and just about 100km from Prague, 20km from the Liberec city center. The spot is great for various southern winds (SE, SSE, S, SSW, SW/140°-230°). With around 350m vertical there is enough time to find some thermals and enjoy a decent flight! Read more...

Expedition Ukraine

During a search for special places that could be perfect for snowkiting, but that have not been explored yet, me and my friend Ales Franc came up with an idea to organize a winter expedition to Ukraine. Thanks to a preliminary exploration of the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains, that took place in summer, we had a decent idea about the landscape, wind conditions and other local conditions. This mountain range is located on the very East of the country near the border with Poland, Slovakia and Romania. The initial plan was to explore two locations within a 4-5 week trip time frame. September powder riding

Posted by: Ondrej aka Andrew » 27/07/2009 » Category: Snowboarding

In retrospect I have to admit that this was an experience of a lifetime. Being able to ride fresh dry powder at the beginning of September in Europe is far from usual. Two weeks before the trip a majority of the European all-year-round resorts were closed, because of an inefficient snow cover. Kitzsteinhorn had about 15-30 centimeter base at the top station due to a warmer summer. Read more...
